Life on earth originated in the primordial sea several million years ago in what is now Rheinhessen. After this sea dried up, a mineral and fertile soil was left behind, which was covered with loess due to drifts during the last ice age. This fine-pored and nutrient-rich drifting sand is ideal for the growth of the vines for the Pinot Gris Urmeer.
